Expedition Write up

On 14th May 2010, Kent Scouts held an expedition weekend. This started off with PICT0500.JPGthe scouts putting up the tents and organising sleeping stuff and belongings.

Once completed, we all played a game of tag rugby with a difference, because the people with tags were hiding in the trees and those without had to find them.

After the tag rugby, we went indoors to watch a film. Dean Harding, ACC scout, let us all choose which film we wanted to view. We chose planet 51! We all had hot chocolate whilst watching the film. Once we had watched planet 51we went to our tents for a good night’s sleep!

TPICT0515.JPGhe next day, Saturday 15th, we all had a big breakfast of bacon rolls to prepare us for our day of hiking. The support team then told us to get in a line of height order. Once done, they put us into patrols.

After the support team put us in patrols we each had 6 bases which we needed to visit and carry out the activity on each. These included; map reading, bag packing,  gas cookers, making our lunch, cards, and expedition foods.

Once we had finished all of the bases we set of on our hike with our bags and lunch; not forgetting the water, of Course! We hiked in patrols my (Jack Liddon) patrol was called the R-tards we were the oldest scouts there. The R-tards went clockwise we all took it in turns to map read. The whole hike was 18 km long (this is approximately 11 miles).

We were the first patrol to return to Bexon Lane Camp Site! We had completed the hike half an hour quicker than we had been expected to! Later on the other patrol got back from there hike. DSCF4008.JPG

Later that evening we had to cook our own dinner as patrols.  We were given 2 gas stoves per patrol and 2 tins or packets of food.

After that we went inside for a quiz with Darren Carter, followed by a sausage sandwich. When all the scouts had finished their sandwiches Dean Harding decided that we should all play man hunt. DSCF4060.JPGThe R-tards were asked to go and hide. 5 minutes later the scouts came looking for us.

When the game had finished we had some hot chocolate and went to our tents.

The next day (16th) breakfast was dead on 8:00! Once we had had breakfast we sorted out our water and went on our hike. This time we went anti clockwise we (R-tards) had a different leader. This time we wereDSCF4008.JPG made to walk slower than the day before (15th). When we got back from the hike we were very tired so went to our tents and relaxed for 10 minutes before we had to start taking down our tents.

Before we knew it, it was the end of the event.  But before we went we had a presentation where we got given our badges and certificate. Then we all went home.
