Winners Report

On the 7th of February we were excited to be taking part in the Kent
Scouts Apprentice day held at BAE systems in Rochester. Despite
arriving early we were the last to arrive from out team, 1st New Barn,
which consisted of Libby, Amy, Abby and Bethany (we are twins). Our Dad always says we were buy one get one free! After a short briefing we were set the challenge of designing a campaign for Scouts. All of the groups were lead in to a big room were we separated into our teams.
We then decided what we were going to do and we started by coming up with the campaign name ‘Mission 2010 have your say’ we then chose a logo and slogan, we had a cow standing on the world with the ‘Moooooving with the World’. We soon got to work conjuring up our plans. We created an advertisement movie on the computer and also designed posters, badges and a woggle. We then began writing a speech for our presentation.

We took a five minute break where we were told about the plans for the Kent Scout Barn and saw a model which looked and sounded amazing. We were then allowed a go on a flight simulator. We managed to get to Belgium in under 20 minutes but unfortunately didn’t make it back. We also visited Rochester airport where we were allowed to go up into the control tower, which was a lot smaller than we expected. While we there we were lucky enough to see an airplane come in and land. We also got to see many different types of airplane such as a Spitfire which looked great.

We got back to work finishing our colourful posters, merchandise designs and our script. We were excited when it was out turn to be lead through to present our campaign. The presentation went well and the Judges asked lots of questions including who was going to dress up as the cow!
We went back into the briefing room which by this time was full of leaders and parents. We waited in anticipation until all the teams were present. With the third and second placed announced we thought ‘Oh well we haven’t won but we have had a good day’ but when it was announced that the winners knew far to much about badges woggles posters and viral advertising we thought we may have a chance. When it was announced that we had won and all we could hear was Amy’s mum cheering as we went up to collect our trophy, medals and certificate from Tom Wynter the Gillingham football player .

It was a wonderful day and we would recommend it to everyone next time.
